Despite an 8 year-long investigation, the charges against two men accused of killing Terrace local Cameron Kerr have been stayed.
In November of 2018, then 30-year-old Kerr was hit by a vehicle while walking along Highway 16 west of the City.
His body was later recovered in a nearby ditch.
An abandoned boat trailer was later found on Haida Gwaii with damage consistent with the incident.
It was connected with a truck and other trailers in the Lower Mainland, which were also seized.
In 2025, RCMP charged Taylor Stogryn and Conrad Wierzbicki in relation to the hit and run.
Both were charged with indignity to human remains and obstruction of justice, while Stogryn also faced a count of failure to stop at the scene.
But, last week, Crown Prosecutors stayed those charges, essentially halting the proceedings.
Kerr’s brother Garrett says they were told that a key testimony from one of their witnesses would no longer support a likely conviction.
He also thanked local RCMP for their tireless work on the case.
