It didn’t take long for LNG Canada to start work on Phase Two at their Kitimat facility.
Construction bagan just two days after last week’s Final Investment Decision came down.
Early work will focus on clearing ground for the new, 225,000 cubic metre, storage tank, which will be owned by 5 local First Nations.
It will also see work on marine facilities and a water treatment system.
That initial work should be done by February, while Phase 2 as a whole is expected to take up to 7 years to build.
Despite Ottawa’s push to buy Canadian amid a US trade war, most of the steel used on the project will come from China.
LNG Canada says that’s because there are only 5 fabrication yards on Earth with the capacity and marine access needed to build and ship the modules.
70 percent of the steel used on the Coastal GasLink Pipeline expansion, however, will be Canadian.
