Despite recent emissions concerns, and being monitored more closely than anywhere in BC, Kitimat had some of the best results in the BC Lung Foundation’s State of the Air report.
The annual report analyzes data from 59 air quality monitoring stations across BC.
None of Kitimat’s three stations even saw half the province’s target cut-off of 25 micro-grams per cubic metre of fine particulate matter.
12 other stations did, when factoring in wildfire smoke, with Valemount the only one exceeding it without that.
Kitimat’s Whitesail station also saw the lowest levels of ground ozone emissions, and the District had the bottom three sites for nitrogen dioxide.
Two of those did rank top five in sulfur emissions, but still well below the target.
