The City of Prince Rupert has extended its Boil Water Notice through the holiday season. This decision follows ongoing efforts to address issues with the water supply system, including the integration of a new water main and concerns about water quality. The notice was first issued on November 25 after a generator failure at the remote water supply. The failure of a BC Hydro line had disrupted the power needed for the chlorination system that disinfects the water. While a temporary generator has been in place, the City is awaiting a permanent replacement to improve reliability. Additionally, an isolated section of pipe has raised concerns about stagnant water potentially contaminating the supply, necessitating the extension of the notice. The City and Northern Health will continue to monitor the situation and ensure all safety measures are met before removing the notice. For updates, residents are encouraged to check the City’s website or municipal app.
