BC is continuing to see the lowest rate of toxic drug overdose deaths since 2019, according to the newest data from the Coroner’s Service.
The 126 deaths this August also mark the fewest for that month since the same year, and tie the lowest figure since 2015 outside of Covid.
In fact, so far, every month this year has recorded its lowest overdose total since March of 2020.
Northern Health has the highest rate of deaths at 43.3 per 100,000, but that is also the lowest it’s been in 10 years.
For Terrace, the rate climbs to 53 per 100,000, the 9th highest of any local health area.
