A new initiative in British Columbia has drastically reduced the time for U.S. nurses to register and start working in the province. What once took months can now be completed in just a few days, leading to a surge in applications. Since launching the fast-tracked process, applications from U.S.-trained nurses have increased by 127%. The British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives has improved efficiency by integrating shared systems with U.S. counterparts, allowing for quicker registration and verification. The province has also been actively recruiting U.S. health professionals, with more than 1,200 interested in relocating, including 573 physicians, 413 nurses, and 133 nurse practitioners. The B.C. government is focusing its efforts on high-need areas, such as cancer care, emergency departments, and rural communities. In addition, a targeted marketing campaign will launch soon in states like Washington, Oregon, and parts of California. This effort aims to bring more skilled health-care workers to the province, improving care for British Columbians.
