New charges have been laid in connection with a deadly shooting in Dawson Creek on January 19. Nolan Douglas Schmidt, 23, who was previously charged with second-degree murder, now faces additional charges of aggravated assault and discharging a firearm with intent. The shooting, which occurred at the Mile Zero Apartment Hotel, resulted in one fatality and left another person seriously injured. Schmidt remains in custody, and investigators are continuing to explore other related incidents in the area. The BC Prosecution Service has approved the new charges as the investigation progresses, and authorities have stated that further charges may follow if additional evidence is found. The RCMP are asking anyone with information to come forward. Schmidt’s next court appearance is scheduled for today.
