Terrace’s Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) fundraiser for the 2023 winter season is off to a good start, according to event organizers.
Vicky Serafini, communication specialist for Ksan Society, says that CNOY works to raise awareness for the vulnerable population as much as raising funds. At the time of speaking, Sarafini said there were 75 people registered as walkers toward their 100 person goal, which has now increased to 84.
Ksan’s total fundraising goal is $30,000, which is currently 71 per cent complete thanks to a series of both individual and corporate donations, which is at an all time high.
Seeing the amount of support already gained through participants and donations, with 26 days left until the event, is something that Sarafini says is “thrilling.”
All of the funds raised for Ksan will be used for basic operating costs within their shelters, which Sarafini says are operating beyond what they’re contracted for. Groceries, hygiene basics, and cleaning supplies for the shelters are among some of the needs for the society’s three shelters.
The CNOY walk is happening on Feb. 25 starting at The Garage on Kalum Street at 4 p.m. and will circle around George Little Park. Serafini says walkers will have a choice between a 2 km or 5 km walk and there will be a hot chocolate stop along the way.
